The CR0tech Blog – February Update

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest, and by far the most jammed packed, edition of the CR0tech blog.

In this edition we will be giving you a comprehensive update of everything that’s been happening within CR0tech along with a few pictures of our progress.

What’s New – In Brief

Adam has been working with Croydon Council and we’re pleased to confirm that our address has been secured as 1 Matthews Yard; our postcode will be confirmed soon by Royal Mail. Our thanks to Croydon Councils address management team who were incredibly fast and efficient in getting the address registered to the premises.

The site has been fully cleared of rubbish and legacy debris, an unenviable task that involved countless wheelbarrows of rubbish and numerous filled skips.

The framework for our stud walls has been completed; credit here must go to our builder who has been working non-stop to get them in place.

Danger – Vinyl Floor Tiles!

Who knew that floor tiles could be such a hazard? Well, Saif and Adam both felt their wrath during the removal of 200m2 of Vinyl Tiles from the floor… however, despite strained wrists and bruised legs, the task was made worthwhile by the uncovering of some beautiful red brick tiles which we are looking to incorporate into the new design.

All we hear is, radio ga-ga, radio goo –goo

We are delighted to announce that we have reached an agreement in principle for CR0tech to be the home of Croydon Radio, a community radio station focusing on the news, views and interests of local people.

Welcome to Croydon Jelly

Another exciting announcement this month comes from Croydon Jelly, who will be hosting their monthly Co-Working event at CR0tech from April onwards, we look forward to welcoming them and their guests!

As if he wasn’t busy enough…

Saif has joined the steering group which is working towards setting up the Croydon “Old Town" business Association with help from Croydon Council and Croydon BID.

And finally…

We wanted to take some time to thank those of you who have been communicating with us via our Twitter and Facebook pages, as well as those who have met Saif at the Tweetups or those who are simply promoting CR0tech as they genuinely believe in the project. If the support we have received thus far is anything to go by then CR0tech will be a huge success not just for its members but for Croydon as a community.

THE COMMUNITY

CR0Tech is about building a sustainable tech community in Croydon. Everything we do is underpinned by our goal of positioning Croydon as a credible player on the European technology scene.

THE HUB

Our hub in Central Croydon will provide tech start-ups with a physical place they can call home. We want to offer co-working space, meeting facilities and everything else a start-up might need, at rock bottom prices.

THE EVENTS

Much of what we do will focus on planning and hosting events for the tech community, the local community and for those who are either considering or should be considering Croydon as their base.

THE COFFEE

No tech scene is complete without great coffee. Our plans include opening a coffee shop at the hub with the aim of serving the best coffee in Croydon to satisfy our community's craving for caffeine.
